Prompting heritage-language engagement in English-speaking Maltese families, via a family language programme intervention

This qualitative, exploratory research study is positioned within the field of Family Language Policy (FLP). Contextualised in bilingual Malta, where Maltese majority language, inquires into effects a plurilingual family language programme on ideologies English-speaking families. The was followed by four such families over four-week period, during which data were collected via participants’ weekly entries semi-structured journals. Upon programme’s completion, second set one-off, semi-structured, focus group interviews, for purpose triangulation. findings highlight interrelated issues across macro, meso and micro levels ideology, contributing to existing postulating potential prompt ideological shifts support heritage-language engagement, transmission maintenance.
